"Length of the grass is perfect, as usual and most of the edging is perfect, except for today, my husband noticed that there are several clumps of grass left overhanging the side walk along the front edge. There is a black plastic edger along the front line of the yard. If you could do your edging on the sidewalk side of this, instead of inside, on the grass side, it won't damage the roots or the plastic and just take off the grass that overhangs onto the sidewalk.
