No wonder the entire town gets caught up in the spirit. The annual California Poppy Festival begins in mid-April featuring live music, a classic car show, arts and crafts, and yes, plenty of flower-power.

The city offers plenty of things to do after viewing the poppies. We’re home to the only “Musical Road” in the country. You’ve probably seen it in Honda Civic commercials. It’s a stretch of asphalt with grooves cut into it, so when you drive over the road, you hear music. The William Tell Overture fell flat with many of the locals at first, but after paving it over, the city got numerous complaints. The Lone Ranger (and the music) rides again on Avenue G between 30t and 40th Streets West.

Lancaster is also home to Apollo Community Regional Park. It’s a great place to feed the ducks, fish and have a picnic. The Barbecue pits and tables are in shaded areas.

If you prefer going out to eat, head to The BLVD. It’s got everything you need for a fun evening. You can shop the boutiques, go to the Lancaster Performing Arts Center for a concert or see an independent film at Laemmle BLVD Cinemas. There’s also a wide array of restaurants for every taste bud.
