Better Living, Better Lawn Care in Dorchester
As the largest neighborhood in the Boston metro area, Dorchester was once its own city. You’ll often hear natives shouting “OFD” — originally from Dorchester. Home to UMass Boston, it’s also the city’s most diverse neighborhood, welcoming newcomers from around the globe.
Kid Friendly
Dorchester is also welcoming to families with children. From parks to playgrounds, this suburb has it all. Franklin Park spans three counties with more than 527 acres, on which you can push buggies, hike, and bike. You'll also find basketball courts and baseball fields. The park includes a zoo and a golf course. Any of these are perfect for a birthday party, pizza party or family get together. The annual Kite and Bike Festival takes place in the park every May. You can bring your own kite or buy one in the park.
The Kingston Maurward Park and Gardens is also a great place to spend the day with kiddos. They can get up close to the farm animals there including rabbits, sheep, alpacas, chickens, and ponies.
Museums
Dorchester is home to five museums including the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library. Adults can spend hours exploring while the interactive exhibits keep the kids busy. The Commonwealth Museum explores the history of Dorchester. Visit the University of Massachusetts to see the art exhibits. The Dorset Teddy Bear Museum and Dinosaur Museum are kids' favorites.
Beach Party
Enjoy an afternoon out at the beach. Malibu and Savin Hill are two Dorchester beaches that attract the weekend crowds. You'll find plenty of parking as well as playgrounds, and promenades. Both beaches are also accessible through the MBTA Red Line.
Restaurants
The restaurants in Dorchester are as diverse as the culture here. You'll find ethnic choices to satisfy any palate. Enjoy a slurp pho in Fields COrner or a pączki, at DJ’s Market in the Polish Triangle. Prefer a Cape Verdean dish? Head to Uphams Corner. Codman square in the place to go for Jamaican treats.
