Better Living, Better Lawn Care in Wilkes-Barre
Coal was discovered in the early 1800s, forming the basis for the growth of Wilkes-Barre Pennsylvania. Throughout the 1800s, hundreds of thousands of immigrants flocked to the city to work in the mines. Likewise, railroads and canals were built across the city to transport the coal. At its peak in the 1930s and ‘40s, Wilkes-Barre had a population of more than 86,000.
Today, the population stands around 41,000, and the 21st century has brought revitalization efforts to this historic city. The Riverfront Commons revitalization project opened the riverfront, and features an amphitheater for live performances and charity events. Perhaps best of all, the Downtown Riverfront Park system has more than 90 acres of open space along the east bank of the Susquehanna River.
Kirby Park is on the west bank of the Susquehanna River. The park host's the annual Cherry Blossom Festival on the last weekend of April, as well as the 4th of July Celebration. Kirby Park has a fitness trail, tennis courts, a running track, walking paths, softball fields, volleyball courts, a pond and lots more.
The Seven Tubs Natural Area encompasses 500-acres around the Wheelbarrow Run stream. The gorgeous stream flows through a rocky ravine into a series of “tubs” within the bedrock. The beautiful surrounding forest is dense with the native flora and fauna of northeastern Pennsylvania. You can hike up the trails to the Tubs, while enjoying the rich nature of this area.
Owned by the Mohegan Tribe, the Mohegan Sun Pocono casino is known for both world-class entertainment and dining; there are 15 dining options here. You don’t need to gamble to enjoy yourself here, you can also relax at the spa, or enjoy a horse race. The Mohegan Sun Arena not only hosts entertainment, but the area also hosts hockey games and monster truck jams.
The F. M. Kirby Center for the Performing Arts, located in the Public Square, is another place to enjoy world-class entertainment; it’s the best place in Wilkes-Barre to see Broadway shows, comedy, music concerts and a wide variety of cultural events that enrich the quality of life here.
