Stress-Free Lawn Care in Sandy
Sandy sits in the foothills of the beautiful Wasatch Mountains, south of Salt Lake City. For centuries, the area was a part-time home to bands of Shoshone, Paiute, and Bannock. The nomadic tribes rambled along the foothills as they traveled back and forth from their summer fishing spots on Bear Lake to the winter abode around Utah Lake.
Mormon farmers began moving into the area during the 1860s and 1870s. But it was mining that defined the region's first four decades. Miners discovered silver in Little Cottonwood Canyon, and the town became a supply depot for the mining industry. Before long, Main Street was lined with saloons, hotels, gambling halls and brothels. Three silver smelters located here, and the territory was a significant smelting center for many years. When the silver ran out in the 1890s, Sandy reverted back to a farming community.
Today, Sandy is home to a wide variety of local and national companies. It’s also a hub of leisure activities. Its location at the foot of the Wasatch Mountains provides outdoor enthusiasts with a place to hike, bike, camp, and snowshoe.
Bells Canyon Trail is a challenge, but worth it. Stop at the reservoir if you need to cool off or want to spend some quiet time fishing. Continue on the trails for plenty of fresh mountain air, meadows, forests and rushing mountain streams.
Perhaps even more challenging is the hike up Mount Olympus. At the top, you’ll be treated to an expansive view of the city below. But be warned it's for experienced hikers only! The county search and rescue team is called here more than any other trail in the region to rescue novices.
If hiking isn’t your thing, you can take it easy and go shopping at The Shops at South Town. It’s a great place to have lunch. Farnsworth Farms is right in the middle of the city, so you don’t have to hike far for farm-fresh apples. The staff is best known for the delicious hand-pressed apple cider and the pumpkin patch in the fall.
Sandy Amphitheater is the place to go for concerts: everything from up and coming locals to world-class entertainment. The sound quality is great, and who doesn’t love listening to live music outdoors, under the stars?
