Better Living, Better Lawn Care in Waukegan
Waukegan is a midsize Illinois city with ample history that began as early as 1650 with French traders. However, while the area was already discovered then, it became famed for being the campsite for Louis Jolliet and Jacques Marquette when they were searching for the Mississippi River. Before it was established as a county seat to Lake County in 1841, it was a trading post named Little Fort. The name changed in 1849, as Waukegan is the Potawatomi Native America tribe word for Little Fort.
The city is located a mere 40 minutes from Chicago, depending on traffic. Milwaukee is less than 60 miles away. Ergo, travelers and residents are located at the center of whatever they need, wherever they need to go. Public transportation in the city includes modern bus stops and ride shares, as well as a railway station that was first established in 1855. As of 2000, the population in the township had boomed to more than 80,000 people, with an increase of (on average) 15,000 new residents per decade since 1990.
Dubbed “City of Progress,” Waukegan is the hometown of Marvel character, Johnny Blaze, also known as Ghost Rider. Author Ray Bradbury, famous for the spooky classic The Halloween Tree, called the township his childhood home. The city has been a backdrop for movie scenes from films including “Groundhog Day,” “Save the Last Dance,” “Blues Brothers,” “Dark Knight,” “Batman Begins,” and “Contagion.”
The inner city has a beautiful downtown district and harbor, both revered for their old-fashioned architecture. Seated alongside Lake Michigan, the city is perfect for nature lovers with outdoor attractions such as the Municipal Beach. The beach sits on 400 acres of waterside park-style property with a 1-mile stretch of sandy shore. Visitors can fish off the marina docks, kiteboard, and swim during designated swimming times. Food trucks love to corral on the boardwalk during the weekends.
