Stress-Free Lawn Care in Slidell
Sitting on the northeast corner of Lake Pontchartrain, Slidell mixes the slow sweetness of a small town with the quirky vibe of nearby New Orleans. While fishing and boating are popular activities, there are plenty of other things to do in this part of Louisiana.
Families especially love Camp Salmen Nature Park for its simple outdoor fun. With trails ranging from just over a half-mile to 8.3 miles, there are options for hikers of all levels. For those who don’t want to strap on hiking shoes, the park offers picnic tables and covered pavilions for celebrating life with a good meal outdoors. An amphitheater there hosts weddings, award ceremonies, and other events. For the younger set, Camp Salmen features an inclusive playground where kids of all abilities can play together.
Another option for the family that loves to be together outdoors is the Tammany Trace trail, a rails-to-trails project that enhances several communities and ends in town. It was originally part of the Illinois Central Railroad before it was bought by the Tammany Parish government. Now stretching 31 miles, this asphalt trail is surrounded by green space, making it a beautiful place to walk, run, ride a bike, or even rollerblade.
When folks want to stay a little closer to home, they head to Olde Towne Slidell Main Street where shopping, eating, history and community all coalesce. Interesting shops offer plenty of opportunities to find that perfect gift for someone special. At different times of the year, the community comes together for events like Oktoberfest, Farm to Table Dinners and Old Towne Alive block parties. Additionally, Olde Towne boasts several outstanding antique stores that carry home decor, vintage clothing, stained glass art, hand made jewelry, pottery, and other collectibles. The association representing the antique shops hosts bi-annual street fairs full of fun and old things.
For people who love to have their nights out include live theater, there is the Cutting Edge Theater, which lives in a salon on Robert Boulevard by day and turns into a funky theater by night. This 100-seat regional theater puts on a range of shows, from new and innovative to beloved and classic, including “Annie,” “Jesus Christ Superstar,” and “The Complete Works of Shakespeare (Abridged) [Revised].” Around Halloween, the talented actors bring their own spin to “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.”
