FieldRoutes: Software Reviews, Demo, & Pricing Info

Text: LawnStarter Reviews: Field Routes | Rating: 3.5 stars | Background Image: Lawnmower on grass

FieldRoutes is a well-built field service software package tailored to the needs of recurring service companies. It is feature-rich and well-designed but more expensive than many of its competitors. We demoed the software and researched online reviews to dig deep into its features, pricing, and user experience.

What we found: FieldRoutes offers a robust set of features, many of which can be automated to save you time and money. However, some business owners won’t save enough money to justify the software’s hefty cost.

FieldRoutes Key Features

FieldRoutes offers powerful functionality with many features that can be customized and automated. Here is a summary of its highlights.

Interactive Dashboard

At login, FieldRoutes greets you with an interactive, drag-and-drop dashboard. The dashboard provides a quick snapshot of customer and business management data, including:

  • Active customer breakdown: recurring, non-recurring, potential
  • Monthly service breakdown: scheduled, unscheduled, overdue
  • Cancellation reasons
  • Autopay Percentage
  • Technician reviews

I was impressed with the clean layout and smooth application flow. However, FieldRoutes’ investment in development and design was my first indication that there would be a steep price tag.

Interactive dashboard

The interactive pie charts (seen above) can easily be reordered by dragging and dropping them to a new position. Want to see more than just a snapshot? You can click on any part of the pie chart for an in-depth view.

You can access the dashboard on your personal computer or a mobile device.

Customer Management

Customer management is essential to every service-based business, and FieldRoutes has several features that ensure no customer gets left behind. Use automation to save time and keep your customers informed.

Creating a New Customer

Creating a new customer is a simple and intuitive process. Although this feature is only available on the web application (not the mobile app), the website is fully responsive. Thus, you can access the entire realm of FieldRoutes functionality using your mobile web browser.

Step 1: Click on the New Customer tab, located within the top menu bar.

Step 2: Fill out the new customer information

New customer screen

You have the option to calculate sales tax automatically, based on the customer’s address.

Step 3:  Select the customer’s preferred communication.

You can send automatic messages to your customers based on their preferred communication method. Extra fees may apply.

Step 4: Click the Save button: Now you may access your customer via the web and mobile app.

Finding a Customer

You can quickly find a specific customer’s information using the search box in the top right corner. Search customers using any identifying information, including:

  • First Name
  • Last Name
  • Phone Number
  • Address
  • Customer ID

Customer Card

Once you find the customer, you can pull up the customer card.  The customer card provides a quick overview of that customer’s data. You can use the top menu to select from a cornucopia of related data and features, including:

  • Properties
  • Documents
  • Billing
  • Notes

Automated Service Contracts

FieldRoutes allows you to create, sign, and store service contracts efficiently. Contracts help your customers understand the depth of agreed-upon consumer services, thus alleviating misunderstandings.

How to Create and Send Service Contracts

Step 1: Click the Leads tab in the top menu of the customer card.

Step 2: Select a service from the drop-down menu.

Leads tab

A FieldRoutes representative will help you customize this view to include the specific services your organization offers. Once you select the service, the other required information automatically populates.

Step 3: Click Save.

Step 4: Click on Documents. The service agreement is automatically generated and stored in documents.

On the backend, you can customize all aspects of service agreements, including:

  • Verbiage
  • Company logo
  • Pricing

The software demo did not include a demonstration on how to customize the template, but the sales associate assured me that it is a simple process.

Step 5: Send the service agreement to your customer. You can either text or email the agreement.

Your customer will receive the contract to sign electronically. Customers also have the option to fill in payment information and sign up for autopay. Contracts can be created and signed in the field via the mobile app.

Scheduling and Routing

Efficient scheduling and route optimization have always been essential to service-based businesses. However, due to rising transportation costs, the efficiency of your service routes can make or break your business’s bottom line. FieldRoutes offers several features that will help with these tasks.

Automatic Scheduling

You can automatically schedule recurring services when a customer signs up for these services. However, the software demo I attended went more in-depth about manual scheduling strategies.

Manual Scheduling

You can manually schedule clients using the web application or in the field on the mobile app.

How to Schedule a Service

Step 1: On the customer card, click the Subscription tab.

Step 2: Select the service you want to schedule.

Step 3: Click the Schedule button

Step 4: Manual Scheduling Options

  • Recommended route: A new view will appear with recommended routes. These recommendations are based on your technicians’ availability and your customers’ location.
  • Calendar view: You can add appointments to your calendar.
  • Map view: The map view allows you to visualize the new customer’s location in relation to existing routes.
  • Intelligent routing: The intelligent routing feature, enabled by a third party, automatically optimizes each route accounting for variables such as distance, traffic, and obstacles.

The intelligent routing option is not included in your monthly software cost. There is an extra fee of 20 cents per optimized route.

Automatic Reminders

You can also schedule automatic appointment reminders for your customers.

Billing and Payments

All field service businesses need to get paid. FieldRoutes has many tools to simplify billing and payments.

Autopay

Customers can sign up for autopay, so their payment gets automatically charged on a recurring basis. You can even provide discounts to customers who opt-in to autopay.

Autopay helps ensure you receive prompt payments and simplifies payments for your customers. FieldRoutes recommends having at least 65% of your customers on autopay.

Accounts Receivable

This view shows who owes you money and how much is owed. In addition, you can automate payment reminders and freeze past due accounts.

Invoicing

You can send your customers invoices that include notes and recommended aftercare. Additionally, you can automate invoicing and completed service emails.

Payment Processing

Playrix is your only choice for payment processing when using FieldRoutes software. Please see the processing fees below. Customers can pay using a credit card or by making a bank transfer.

Payment MethodFee
Credit/Debit3.1%
Bank transfer$1.25 flat fee

QuickBooks and Excel

Easily export FieldRoutes data to Quickbooks or Excel. Additionally, an API (application programming interface) is available, allowing FieldRoutes to integrate with any non-competitor software.

Customer Portal

Your FieldRoutes software subscription also includes a user-friendly portal for your customers. Customers can see an overview of services and billing information and rate your technicians.

When customers give a rating of at least 4/5 stars, they are asked to share the review on Google and social media. This nifty feature can help you build your online presence and rank higher in search results.

PestRoutes

If you specialize in pest control, you should check out PestRoutes, a solution that is specially tailored to fit the needs of pest control businesses. It is a leading pest control software option.

Marketing Suite

In this article, we review FieldRoutes Operations Suite. Although we did not demo or review the software’s marketing suite, it is important to note that the marketing solutions package is available and sold separately.

It includes features and services such as:

  • Web design
  • SEO
  • Lead Generation
  • Content Creation
  • Paid Advertising
  • E-commerce

FieldRoutes Pricing

FieldRoutes is well designed and robust in features, but it comes at a cost. Your customer volume determines your monthly fee.

Number of CustomersMonthly Price
0-500$249
501-1,000$299
Customers over 1,000$100 per 1,000 customers

Additional Fees May Apply

Promotions

At the time of my software demo, FieldRoutes was offering the following public promotions:

  • With a 12-month agreement, the 1st six months are $199 per month.
  • Waived training and onboarding fee

Remember, it never hurts to ask about discounts and promotions. Some companies give sales associates the power to offer additional discounts. As long as you are friendly and respectful, the worst thing that can happen is the salesman says no.

FieldRoutes User Reviews

Great software: “We are big fans! Great software and the team is great!” -Lauren Thrasher from Facebook

Way too expensive for what it is: “Invoicing customers. But too long of a process at best 10min making a receipt for customers and had to pay for per email.” – Orliomar V. from Capterra

PestRoutes: “I would say that the things I like the most about this software are these:

1- Stability of the software (It does not suffer from major bugs/breaks when it does they are resolved/fixed quickly

2- Ease of use (It takes me far less time to train my CSRs/Technicians/Sales Reps on the software)…” – John P from g2.com

FieldRoutes: “The web-based software has been great. It was easy to use.” – Josh P from Capterra

One simple reason not to use this software: “In 2017 they cared. They needed customers and they worked with you. In 2020 they seem to cater to their large customers, leaving the local companies to adapt to their will.” – Robert S. from Capterra

Pros and Cons of FieldRoutes

FieldRoutes is high-quality software that comes with a robust set of features. But unfortunately, it is too expensive for some smaller companies.

ProsCons
✓ Robust in Features
✓ Responsive web app
✓ Smooth interface
✓ Can integrate with any non-competitor software
✓ Highly customizable
✗ Expensive
✗ Only one option for payment processing
✗ Learning curve

Alternatives to FieldRoutes

FieldRoutes is far from the only field service software. If you are looking for a more affordable option with per-feature pricing or a software package better tailored to your specific line of business, one of these alternatives may work for you.

  • Jobber: If you are looking for a more affordable service business software, Jobber might be for you. Jobber has a per-feature pricing model, with monthly subscriptions starting at just $15.
  • Arborgold: Arborgold is a powerful software package tailored to the needs of the landscaping, lawn care, pest control, and tree care industries. In addition, Arborgold offers a per-feature pricing model, giving it a starting price tag lower than FieldRoutes.
  • ServiceTitan: ServiceTitan owns FieldRoutes. So what’s the main difference? ServiceTitan works best with single service businesses, such as plumbing and HVAC. On the other hand, FieldRoutes is built to fit the unique needs of recurring service businesses (e.g. pest control companies, lawn care providers).
  • Service Autopilot: This feature-rich field service software provides a great user experience and a per-feature pricing model. It is built for various service industries, including lawn care, pest control, pool cleaning, snow removal, and cleaning services.
  • JobNimbus: Are you looking for a field service software package that you can try for free? JobNimbus offers a free trial to test drive the software. If you have a concrete, construction, HVAC, landscaping, or roofing company, JobNimbus might work for you!
  • Briostack: Briostack pest control software focuses on business management solutions for the pest control industry.

Our Verdict

FieldRoutes is a superb software solution with functionality that will solve many of the day-to-day concerns facing recurring-service companies. However, it comes at a cost. Some small businesses won’t be able to fit the software’s price into their monthly budget.
