While Spring, Texas is close to Houston, it has a flavor all of its own. Spring might feel like a town because of all its amenities, but it's actually a "census-designated place." No matter what it is, Spring is a place that has a lot of history. While Spring was designated in the 1830s, the town experienced most of its growth between 1871 and 1947. In 1871, the International and Great Northern Railroad was built through Spring. This caused Spring to expand. In 1873, Spring received a post office. By 1884, Spring had 150 residents, two steam saw and grist mills, two cotton gins, three churches, and several schools. In the early 1900s, another railroad opened, connecting Spring to Fort Worth. The population increased again, and the town opened its first bank. In the 1930s, this same bank was robbed many times. It's even rumored that the notorious Bonnie and Clyde robbed Spring's bank during this time. Visitors to the bank today can still see many bullet holes left there from these robberies. In the 1970s, Houston's suburbs expanded to the north, and Spring opened more residential areas and subdivisions. Throughout the 1980s, Spring began to bill itself as a tourist area, specifically promoting the restored homes in the Old Town Spring area.

Spring and the Old Town area still boast many tourist attractions today. Homeowners and visitors in the area can both enjoy Old Town's many Victorian-style shops, restaurants, and art galleries. There are multiple boutiques known for being great places to buy gifts. There are also many guided ghost walks throughout this part of town. Beyer Park has similar amenities, as well as softball and baseball fields. Pundt Park has a canoe launch and a trail system connecting Bayer Park to the Spring Creek Greenway. Nearby to Spring is also the Mercer Arboretum and Botanic Gardens, a great stop for kids and adults alike. Golf lovers can enjoy Spring's Cypresswood Golf club.
