In 1941, the construction of Williams Air Force Base caused a minor population boom, but there were still only 3,800 residents by 1950. By 1980, the population grew to a comparatively whopping 30,000 thanks to the town's new manufacturing plants for computing companies such as Microchip, Motorola, and Intel. Since then, Chandler has become one of the fastest-growing municipalities in the United States. Now, the town's population numbers 238,000 and counting.
