The TruHealth Lawn Care Plan includes:

Day of Lawn Care: What to Expect

On the first day you receive service, a TruGreen specialist will speak with you about your lawn. However, if you’re unable to be home, lawn care services can still take place without you present.

After treatment, your TruGreen specialist will leave a service summary at your front door or send you a digital service summary via email or text.  You can also access the service summary through the TruGreen website or mobile app.

There are certain things you’ll need to do before a TruGreen technician arrives. Remember to:

  • Unlock gates so the technician can access your front yard and backyard.
  • Bring pets and children indoors. They must wait an hour or two after treatment for the products to dry before returning to the lawn.

After the services are done, your lawn will benefit from one inch of water within 48 hours of application (unless modest rainfall occurs).

Other TruGreen Services

Could your yard benefit from something more than basic fertilization and aeration treatments? Are the mosquitoes in your backyard becoming too much of a hassle for you to handle? Not to worry–– TruGreen offers a variety of services beyond its lawn care plans.

If you don’t find your desired service listed below, contact a local TruGreen Pittsburgh for further details.

Mosquito Defense

What’s the use of a beautiful lawn when outdoor pests are waiting to suck your blood? Well, TruGreen’s mosquito control treatment promises to save the day.

A TruGreen specialist will treat your lawn with mosquito repellent designed to control the mosquito population within 24 hours. Say goodbye to those itchy bumps!

TruGreen promises to avoid spraying your yard’s sensitive areas, including around water sources (such as your garden pond), edible plants, and flowering plants where pollinators feast.

Perimeter Pest Control

Why wait for pests to enter your home before controlling them? TruGreen’s Perimeter Pest Control helps prevent common outdoor pests from making their way indoors. Your TruGreen specialist will:

  • Apply a granular treatment five feet from the home’s exterior.
  • Remove cobwebs, wasp combs, spiderwebs, and other pest debris.
  • Apply a liquid barrier treatment around the entry points of the house.

Keep in mind that the Perimeter Pest Control Service only prevents common outdoor pests such as ants, spiders, and cockroaches. The service does not control common indoor pests, such as bed bugs, termites, fleas, and rodents.

Tree and Shrub Services

You don’t want wilting trees and shrubs to distract from your flourishing lawn. A TruGreen specialist will evaluate your trees and shrubs to create a customized plan. Once the problem is identified, the technician will move forward with root zone fertilization, insect and mite control, or disease control.

If at any point you’re not satisfied with the condition of your trees and shrubs, the technician will adjust the plan and treatment to suit your satisfaction.

Grub Prevention and Control Services

Are those dreaded brown patches back again? It might be grubs. Grubs are beetle larvae that destroy lawns by feeding on grass roots, causing those large, insufferable brown spots on the lawn.

A TruGreen technician will apply a treatment to kill the larvae before they hatch and monitor the lawn during the fall season.

Soil Amendment and Analysis Services

If you want a lawn with healthy grass, you’ll need to prioritize its soil. Why? Because if your soil is too acidic or too alkaline, the grassroots won’t be able to access available nutrients. The turf will struggle to grow as a result.

To remedy this soil issue, TruGreen technicians apply amendments to the soil (such as lime or sulfur) to balance the pH level. A soil pH between 6.0 and 7.0 ensures a healthy environment for turf growth.

Want to know what other customers think of TruGreen Pittsburgh? Let’s look at some reviews for TruGreen Pittsburgh South and Pittsburgh North.

TruGreen Pittsburgh South

Positive Review: The lawn specialist who treated my lawn is fantastic. Very knowledgeable, helped me schedule service right from his truck, and is very conscientious about the lawns he treats. Everyone in the neighborhood loves him for being such a true professional.– Tim Sauer (Google Reviews)

Negative Review: “They never show up to treat our lawn!  They are always canceling! We have called customer service several times to complain and to speak to a manager. A manager has NEVER called us back. The treatments they have performed have not done anything to help get rid of the weeds. Our lawn does not look any different! Very disappointed!!” Julie Kuna (Google Reviews)

Positive Review: “Since starting my service with TruGreen, my yard looks magnificent. The products that were applied did an outstanding job of getting rid of the weeds and dandelions – now my neighbor doesn’t have to ask me “are you going to mow your dandelions today?” The specialist always completes the job properly and I am proud to  have the TruGreen ad placed in my front yard. I do believe the money spent was worth the service performed. Thank You!” Elaine Lawryk (Google Reviews)

TruGreen Pittsburgh North

Negative Review: “This TruGreen Office is not reliable. The technician claimed he was at my home but was not. Was told a new service would be provided in 3 days. Received notice today they will be there next week, 7 days late. I would not use this office.” – Daniel Fischer (Google Reviews)

Positive Review: “The lawn and tree/shrub service that I receive is great. This is my 1st year for the lawn service & I had great results. I like the liquid fertilizer. It’s more uniform. I met a couple of the techs. They are very nice & knowledgeable. Good job TruGreen.” – Pete Mochnach (Google Reviews)

Negative Review: “They are the worst. They were supposed to be spraying my trees so they would stay healthy. Lost more than a dozen very expensive trees in the last year to them. Not one time did anyone say anything to me or talk to me about anything else that could have been done. Would not recommend them under any circumstances. Total waste of time and money. Avoid like the plague. Also tried to charge me for service after I fired them.” Kerpec Maintenance (Google Reviews)

Benefits of Lawn Care Services

A lot goes into maintaining a beautiful lawn. Watering and mowing the grass once a week isn’t always enough to keep a lawn looking its best.

Let’s take a closer look at how common TruGreen treatments can boost your lawn’s curb appeal, such as fertilization, soil amendments, and aeration. You might be surprised to learn that some of these treatments can provide maximum results when paired with another.

Benefits of Fertilization

The first step to a healthy lawn is fertilizer. Why? Because your soil might not have the necessary nutrients for your turf to grow and flourish. Fertilizer provides nutrient supplements to the soil, boosting soil fertility and turf health as a result.

The three main nutrients that fertilizer provides are nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. These nutrients are essential for the turf and roots to develop. Fertilizers make your grass grow greener and thicker, strengthening the plant cells so the turf can resist external stressors like drought, pests, and diseases.

Benefits of Aeration

Soil can become compacted over time due to daily traffic, such as kids playing on the lawn or parking vehicles in the yard. Soil compaction limits turf growth by preventing oxygen, nutrients, and water from nourishing the grassroots.

Core aeration is the process of removing soil plugs from the ground to help relieve soil compaction. Loosening the soil allows water, oxygen, and fertilizer to penetrate the ground and access the grassroots. The holes also encourage the grass roots to grow into the empty space and expand their reach.

Core aeration also removes thatch, the living and dead organic matter that forms between the turf and soil. A thin layer of thatch can be beneficial by acting as an insulator during the cold months, but it’s the thick layer of thatch that needs your attention. A thatch layer half an inch thick increases the possibility of diseases and pests.

Benefits Of Soil Amendments

Does your lawn remain yellow despite your best efforts? Your soil’s pH might be at fault. When the soil pH is imbalanced, the grass is unable to absorb nutrients, even if you recently applied fertilizer.

Lime and sulfur are great examples of soil amendments. Lime can help amend soil that’s too acidic (low pH), and sulfur can amend soil that’s too alkaline (high pH). It’s best for your soil pH to be neutral, between 6.0 and 7.0.

Benefits of Weed Control

Your kids enjoy picking the dandelions, but these weeds can hinder your lawn from thriving.  Why? Because weeds steal the light, water, and nutrients intended for your lawn. So while the weeds grow and flourish, your turfgrass may wilt and struggle to survive.

Benefits of Overseeding

Are you freaking out over bare patches and thinning grass? Thinning grass can have a lot of contributing factors, such as drought, extreme heat, or extreme cold (which we’re very familiar with here in Pittsburgh).

Nobody wants uneven patches on their lawn. That’s where overseeding comes in. Overseeding is the process of spreading grass seed over an existing lawn to encourage new growth (and remedy thin areas). By planting grass seed in those thinning spots, you’ll thicken the lawn and build its resistance to pest damage, fungus, and erosion.

Buyer’s Guide to Choosing a Lawn Care Company

Sometimes, the more options you have, the harder it is to choose. There’s plenty to consider when choosing a lawn care company that’s right for you and your lawn. Here are the most important factors to look at when narrowing down your options:

Price

You might not have big bucks to spend on a spectacular lawn, and that’s OK. Before you sign up with a lawn care company, request quotes from at least three different companies so you can compare costs in Pittsburgh. You might find a company that’s perfect for your budget.

Remember, price is often a reflection of the service quality you’re paying for. Check out recent customer reviews to ensure your money is well spent.

Location

Working with a local lawn care company is usually more convenient than hiring a company that’s miles away. A local company can schedule appointments sooner and more likely respond to a lawn emergency. Besides, who wants to deal with lawn pests any longer than they need to?

Services Offered

Imagine having to deal with different lawn care companies for different services—sounds hectic! Instead of hiring five different companies for your outdoor needs, why not hire one or two that can get it all handled? When you have fewer providers to call and coordinate treatments, your lawn care will be much easier to manage.

FAQ About Lawn Care

How Often Should I Mow My Lawn?

Weekly mowing during the growing season is the general rule. Remember, never cut more than one-third of the total grass blade at one time; otherwise, you’ll damage your grass.

How Often Should I Test My Soil?

Test your clay soil every 3 to 4 years and sandy soil every 2 to 3 years. However, it’s best to get it tested sooner rather than later, especially if you’re having issues with turf growth or are starting a new garden bed.

Pro Tip: At-home DIY soil tests don’t always reveal the most details about your soil. Send a soil sample to the Penn State Agricultural Analytical Services Lab for laboratory soil testing to receive detailed results and amendment recommendations.

How Often Should I Water My Lawn?

The general rule of thumb is that your grass should receive an inch of water weekly. If there is modest rainfall, then you’re good to go. If not, then you should water the grass with your sprinkler system or garden hose.

DIY Lawn Care

Is lawn maintenance something you can handle on your own? Then grab your mower, soil testing kit, and weed eater and slap on the sunscreen.

You’ll also need to invest in quality fertilizer and a broadcast spreader. And remember to add a core aerator and dethatcher to your shopping list. Lawn care might take time and hard work, but you should focus on the finish line: A bright and healthy-looking lawn.

Is DIY lawn care starting to sound like a big investment? Want to just relax and leave it to the pros? TruGreen specialists are a few clicks away to help remedy your lawn care problems. And if your lawn needs mowing, trimming, or edging, hire a local LawnStarter pro.
