When You Move: How to Transfer LawnStarter Service to Your New Address

Key Takeaways:
Transfer your service in just 3 steps: Add your new address, book a service there, then cancel service at your current address.
If you're within your mowing plan's 3-cut minimum, add your new property and book the remaining service(s) there.
Your provider and your price don't carry over automatically. Your new address gets its own provider and pricing.

Moving doesn’t have to mean losing your LawnStarter service. In just 3 steps, you can transfer your lawn care service to your new property.

The process is simple: Add your new address as a property, book a service there, then cancel your old address.

This guide walks you through exactly how to transfer your LawnStarter service to a new address, including one detail that catches a lot of movers off guard: If you still haven’t used LawnStarter’s 3 required mowing visits, don’t let those happen at the house you’re leaving. Reallocate them to your new home instead.

Everything happens in the LawnStarter app or your account at my.lawnstarter.com, with our Support team standing by in case you have any questions.

How to Move Your LawnStarter Service

Moving your service to your new address requires 3 separate actions in your existing account, done in this order: Add your new property, book a lawn care service there, then cancel the service at your old address.

1. Add Your New Address as a Property

In the app or at my.lawnstarter.com, go to your account and select “Add Property.” Then enter your new address.

LawnStarter runs a quick check on the address. It’ll reject any address that’s a duplicate or fraudulent. If it clears, your new property is added right away.

2. Book Service at Your New Address

Once your new property is added, order the services you want there, just like you would for a first-time signup.

Pricing is calculated fresh for the new address. It’s based on your new property’s square footage and local area, not what you were paying at your old property.

3. Cancel Service at Your Old Address

In the app or your online account, select “Cancel” in the Help/Support area.

A list of reasons for canceling your service will pop up: Select “Moving” as the reason.

To avoid a cancellation fee, cancel your LawnStarter service at least 48 hours before the next scheduled service at your old home.

If you have a credit on your account: You can apply your credit to your new property when you add your new home to your account. If you cancel all services at your old property, the credit will be applied to the service booked at your new property instead.

If You’re Still Within Your 3-Cut Minimum, Do This First

All new mowing plans require a 3-cut minimum. This minimum requires you to have 3 completed mows before you’re allowed to cancel the service.

LawnStarter places limitations on when you can cancel:

  • If you’ve completed 0 mows, you can cancel anytime.
  • If you’ve completed 3 or more mows, you can also cancel anytime.
  • But if you’ve completed only 1-2 mows, LawnStarter won’t let you cancel yet.

The remaining service(s) can be an advantage if you time it right. Before you cancel your old address, add your new property and book your next mow there. The visit (or visits) you still owe happen at your new home, not as a bonus mow for whoever buys your old house.

For example: If you’ve had 1 mow so far, you still owe 2 more before you’re eligible to cancel. Add your new address and book 2 mows there. Once those are done, cancel your old property.

What Doesn’t Carry Over to Your New Address

When you set up a new property with LawnStarter, some things won’t carry over to your new address, such as:

  • Your provider. Each new property is assigned a provider through LawnStarter’s standard matching process. You might end up with the same provider if he or she covers your new area, but there’s no guarantee.
  • Your price. Your new address is priced based on the yard’s characteristics (yard size, ZIP code, and so on), not on what you were paying before.
  • What DOES carry over: Any balance you owe for completed work stays on your account regardless of the move.
