Here’s what it actually means to use LawnStarter:

  • No lead costs: You’re not paying for leads or competing in bidding wars. Jobs are sent to you — you decide what to accept.
  • Weekly pay: Get paid every week through Stripe. No invoicing, no chasing customers, no waiting a month to see your money.
  • You keep 100% of tips: LawnStarter takes a commission on completed jobs — but every dollar a customer tips is yours.
  • Smarter routes: Jobs are grouped by location, so you’re not zigzagging across town burning time and gas.
  • Less admin: LawnStarter handles billing, customer communication, payments, and tax docs — so you’re not stuck doing paperwork at night.
  • You control your schedule: You choose which job offers to accept. Work 5 days a week or 2 — the platform accommodates both.

Justin Stultz, LawnStarter pro and owner of Wildflower Lawn Care in Hutto, Texas, says, “2025 was (my) first full-time year doing only lawn care and landscaping-type stuff. I liked the fact that this gave me a lot more independence and control over my schedule.”

What You Need to Get Started

Requirements are minimal; you probably already have what you need:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Lawn mower, string trimmer, leaf blower
  • Smartphone with GPS enabled
  • U.S. work authorization
  • Pass a background check

That’s it. No franchise fee, no software subscription, no upfront investment beyond the equipment you likely already own.

Once you complete onboarding, you receive job offers via push notification in the LawnStarter Pro app. Open the app and you’ll see available jobs on a map with your payout shown before you commit. Review the job details and distance from your location, then claim the ones that make sense for your route.

“The hardest part was finding customers, and then LawnStarter was a great way to get started with that,” Stutz says.

First-time visits set the foundation. Your pro profile is visible to the customer before you arrive. After the job, you submit photos and the customer receives a prompt to rate your service.

Earnings are held for 72 hours after job completion, then included in the weekly payout processed every Monday — funds typically arrive in your account by Tuesday or Wednesday.

Over time, customers who are satisfied book recurring visits — weekly or biweekly. Recurring customers are the core of a stable lawn care business. Top LawnStarter pros can build a base of 60+ recurring customers.

How You Earn More as You Grow

Consistent high-quality work means you get better and more jobs — and the more you earn. LawnStarter tracks 3 things: your average customer rating, job completion rate, and cancellation rate. Based on that, you’re placed into a performance tier.

The top tier — Platinum — unlocks the best earning opportunities for top pros:

  • First access to new jobs: You see and can claim jobs before lower-tier pros in the same area, which means fuller schedules and tighter routes.
  • Matched tips every quarter: LawnStarter matches up to 25% of your net earnings for the quarter, capped at your actual tips received. If customers tip well, LawnStarter adds to it.
  • Trip fee protection: If a customer cancels after you’ve already arrived, you’re compensated every time.

What it takes to reach Platinum:

  • Average customer rating: 4.8 or higher
  • Job completion rate: 70% or higher
  • Cancellation rate: 5% or lower
  • Be on the platform for 3+ months
  • Complete at least 20 mowing jobs in the last 12 months

Additional incentives at all tiers: On-time completion bonuses apply to first-visit jobs. And since customers are actively encouraged to tip through the app, tips are a consistent part of earnings across the platform.

LawnStarter has paid out more than $400 million to providers since launching.
