Day of Lawn Care: What to Expect

When a TruGreen specialist comes to treat your property, you won’t have to keep your kids and pets inside too long – only an hour or two to let the treatment dry. While you’re bringing your kids and dogs inside, unlock the backyard and front yard gates.

A TruGreen specialist will speak with you about your lawn’s health during their first visit, but the service can still occur if you’re not home.

Your TruGreen pro will leave a service summary at your front door. If you signed up for text or email notifications, you’ll receive a digital service summary.  You can also view your service summary online at www.trugreen.com or through the mobile app.

For the treatment to be most effective, give your lawn about 1 inch of water within 48 hours of treatment (unless there’s rain in the forecast). Doing so helps deliver the nutrients to the roots.

Other TruGreen Services

How can you enjoy your beautiful lawn when you’re slapping mosquitoes left and right? TruGreen offers additional services to its lawn care plans, including mosquito control, tree and shrub care, and soil amendments.

When we requested outdoor services for Denver homes via TruGreen’s online ordering system, TruGreen recommended the following popular services. Don’t see what you’re looking for? Contact your local TruGreen branch for further details.

Mosquito Control

Colorado has seen an increase in West Nile Virus, and TruGreen’s mosquito control can help protect you. Protection begins 24 hours after the first treatment. A TruGreen specialist will spray a mosquito repellent in your yard every 30 days, for a total of five applications.

Tree and Shrub Care

TruGreen’s customized approach doesn’t stop at lawns. The company also offers a science-based approach to tree and shrub care that includes seasonal root zone fertilization, insect and mite control, and horticultural oil for extra protection.

If you’re unhappy with the results, a TruGreen specialist will return to your property to remedy the problem at no charge to you.

Soil Amendment and Analysis

When your lawn isn’t responding to fertilizer, there might be a soil problem. When soil pH levels are too alkaline or acidic, roots struggle to uptake the soil’s available nutrients. Once a TruGreen expert evaluates your soil, they may recommend a soil amendment that brings your soil closer to a neutral pH to improve growth, nutrient availability, and rooting activity.

TruGreen Denver Customer Reviews

It’s always helpful to read reviews of a company before you commit. That’s why we’ve compiled a few customer reviews for TruGreen Denver North and TruGreen Denver South.

TruGreen Denver North

Positive Review: Always efficient and helpful. If you are unhappy they will come right back out and respray whatever problem you are having with your yard or trees. Free of charge. My grass had mites and they got rid of them in two sprays. I highly recommend TruGreen Lawn Care!” – Beverly H. (Google review)

Negative Review: “Used TruGreen for one summer season; they managed to kill my Aspen in record time. The ‘technician’ was always showing up unexpectedly, would wait in the truck for a half-hour, and drive off. Then you get a bill for $100. If you manage to cancel, they’ll call you repeatedly with offers to kill your remaining lawn. If you turn those down, the spam starts.” – Dave H. (Yelp review)

Positive Review: I’ve used Trugreen for many years and, while a tough price, they provide good service.  All team members who conduct the variety of services are professional, engaging, and proficient in their duties.” – Gregg K. (Google review)

TruGreen Denver South

Positive Review: Trugreen is the absolute best company for fertilization of both lawn and trees/shrubs, and weed control. Looking forward to enjoying my gorgeous green lawn.” –  Barb L. (Google review)

Positive Review: “Our technician was very thorough and explained the entire process with several different plans. No pressure to take the service.” – Laura W. (Yelp review)

Negative Review: This company is absolutely horrible! I paid them to perform services in my yard last year and it was a complete nightmare. It was so bad that I had to start staying home on the days of service so I could videotape the tech showing up, printing a completion ticket to put on my door, and then driving away without performing any services. Then when you call the local number to complain they have the number remote forwarded to the corporate office which has no idea what to tell you. I asked for a call back from the owner of this franchise several times and never received a return call ever.” Chad B. (Google review)

Benefits of Lawn Care Services

Good lawn care can mean the difference between crunchy, dying turf and a soft, green oasis. But how can services like fertilization and aeration make such a difference in a lawn’s health and appearance? Let’s investigate how TruGreen’s services can impact your lawn.

Benefits of Fertilization

Just like you need vegetables to nourish your body, your lawn needs proper nourishment too. Fertilization gives your lawn that nourishment.

Depending on the results of a soil test, your lawn may benefit from fertilizer containing nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. These essential nutrients help your lawn grow faster, greener, and stronger.

Brownie Points: When you fertilize wisely, pests, diseases, and weeds are less likely to damage the lawn. Why? Because they don’t stand a fighting chance against healthy, strong turf.

Benefits of Aeration

It might seem counterproductive to poke holes in your lawn, but core aeration is extremely beneficial to your lawn’s health and drainage. Here’s why:

Soil can become compacted over time, making it difficult for grass roots to receive air, nutrients, and water. Core aeration alleviates that pressure by pulling soil plugs out of the ground. Once those plugs are removed, water drains into the soil and nutrients and oxygen can finally reach the roots. The holes also allow the grass roots to expand into empty space.

Aeration also helps minimize thatch build-up. Thatch is the layer of dead and living organic matter accumulating between the grass blades. A thatch layer over one-half inch thick can attract pests and diseases, which is why you ought to remove it.

Benefits of Soil Amendments

Colorado soils are notorious for having a high pH, which doesn’t allow for optimal turf growth. Why? Because a soil pH that’s too alkaline (or too acidic) can make the soil’s nutrients less available to grass roots.

When a soil amendment is added to the lawn, like lime or sulfur, it returns the soil to a neutral pH, making it easier for the grass roots to absorb nutrients. Soil amendments can also improve water retention, drainage, and microbial activity.

The bottom line: Soil amendments can enhance your lawn’s soil conditions, leading to fuller, greener turfgrass.

Benefits of Weed Control

Unless you plan to eat your lamb’s quarters (which some people do, so don’t judge your neighbor if you see them eating it), you probably could do without seeing this weed on your lawn. Not only will you create a healthier lawn by controlling lamb’s quarters and other common lawn weeds, but you’ll also enhance your lawn’s beauty.

Weeds want the water, nutrients, and sunlight intended for your lawn. If a weed infestation grows severe enough, it will eventually outcompete your grass and make your lawn vulnerable to other stressors. And you better act fast, because some weeds multiply in the blink of an eye.

Benefits of Overseeding

Overseeding your lawn fills in those unsightly thin and bare spots. It’s usually performed after an aeration service exposes the soil to receive new seeds. Overseeding makes for a thicker and happier lawn, leaving it less susceptible to weeds, diseases, and pests.

TruGreen Highlights

TruGreen probably won’t find a dinosaur skull in your Denver backyard, unlike the building crews who found one in Colorado’s Coors Field. But that doesn’t mean the lawn care company can’t boast some highlights of its own.

Location

Between the United States and Canada, TruGreen has about 314 branch locations. If you decide to move to another city, the chances are good that another TruGreen facility will serve your area. While you find a new local dentist, hairdresser, and plumber, you can rest assured that a TruGreen branch is likely nearby.

Services Homes and Commercial Properties

Wouldn’t it be convenient to hire a lawn care company that can service both your home and your small business? No more calling different representatives and logging into two billing portals. TruGreen offers lawn care services for residential and commercial properties.

Healthy Lawn Analysis

TruGreen knows every lawn is different, which is why it starts every lawn care plan with a Healthy Lawn Analysis so it can offer customized care. Some lawns have high traffic, while others have aggressive weeds or pests. By evaluating what needs to be treated, TruGreen can help maximize your lawn’s health.

Final Word on TruGreen Denver

Denverites turn to TruGreen for their lawn care maintenance so they can spend time at Washington Park or botanical gardens instead of fertilizing, aerating, or overseeding their lawns. And when your yellow lawn has you stumped, a TruGreen specialist can deliver a helpful diagnosis.

Remember, TruGreen can enhance your lawn’s health, but the company won’t trim or edge the grass. When you need lawn mowing, trimming, or edging, call in the LawnStarter pros.

Buyer’s Guide to Choosing a Lawn Care Company

Choosing a lawn care company can be difficult, which is why we’ve narrowed down some key factors to consider when hiring a pro.

Technician Training

Some lawn care companies offer more comprehensive training for their technicians than others. Continuous training is also important for lawn care technicians – even for the most experienced – because the industry standards frequently change.

Product Safety

Your kids’ and pets’ safety is your top priority. You need help with lawn care but you shouldn’t have to compromise their safety. You also don’t want to keep them trapped inside for hours on end after receiving a lawn treatment. When choosing a lawn care company, asking about their product safety is essential. Some questions to consider asking a company are:

  • Are the products used registered with the EPA?
  • How long do you have to stay off the lawn after treatment?
  • Does the company offer all-natural lawn care?

Location

A local lawn care company is usually able to offer more immediate service than a company that’s far away. If you notice a lawn disease starting, you wouldn’t want to have to wait days for service because waiting could be detrimental to your lawn.

FAQ About Lawn Care

Should I mow my lawn before fertilizing it?

Yes. By mowing your lawn before fertilizing it, you’re giving the fertilizer a better opportunity to reach the soil.

Do I need to water my lawn in the winter?

It depends. If it’s been a long time without any rain or snow, your lawn would benefit from being watered once or twice a month, even during its dormant state. You’ll want to ensure the air and soil temperatures are above 40 degrees Fahrenheit; otherwise, your turf will freeze. Hand watering is also best during winter, as opposed to using your irrigation system.

Should I water my lawn every day in the summer?

No, watering your lawn every day is not necessary. In fact, it could cause severe problems, like lawn diseases or soil compaction from excess water. Denver lawns benefit from watering twice a week during the active growing season.

DIY Lawn Care

Creating and maintaining a lawn the do-it-yourself route is manageable. It’s a big investment of time and energy but it also brings a sense of pride for your hard work. You’ll have to decide whether the sweat and sunburn of DIY lawn maintenance are worth it, or if hiring a lawn care pro is the way to go.

Remember, sometimes it takes a trained eye to identify and treat a lawn care problem. If you think your lawn is suffering from low soil pH or pests, a Denver TruGreen pro may have the solution. And if you’re simply tired of lawn mowing and trimming, the Lawnstarter pros have you covered.
