Willie Carmichael: Lawn Care is a Family Business

A man wearing an orange T-shirt and a cap stands outdoors on a residential street, leaning on a SCAG lawnmower. The background includes a sidewalk, green lawns, trees, and houses under a blue sky with light clouds. A leaf blower is visible on a trailer behind the lawnmower.

Willie Carmichael and his family have been mowing lawns in and around Apopka, Florida, for 25 years. Willie has been on the LawnStarter platform for more than 5 years, and he’s earned nearly $5,000 in tips in that time.

Willie Lawn Care & More LLC is in LawnStarter’s top 20 when it comes to getting tips. Willie’s average tip amount is about $9, but that adds up with each mow.

What’s Willie’s secret to success? “We cut grass, and we do a little extra,” he says. “Basically, we do it all. We arrive on time. We cut grass. We weed-eat, blow away the debris, and edge lawns. We get it all done fast.”

From Willie’s website: “Willie Lawn Care & More LLC finishes each project on schedule and with the highest level of quality. With a focus on personalized service, competitive rates and customer satisfaction, we’re always striving to meet and exceed expectations.”

Another secret to Willie’s success? Family. “We mow more when we work together. We run 2 to 3 trucks – 3 people per truck,” he says. “Me and my family – my 2 sons, my wife, and my nephews.”

Together, as a family, “we cut grass, weed-eat, edge, blow grass clippings and other debris,” he says. “We do it all fast. We get it done well, and we make sure we close the gate when we leave.”

Willie’s tip for lawn care pros just starting out? “Get more help. Don’t get greedy,” he says. Willie’s family helps him cover more ground and mow more lawns – and earn more tips.
