When you’re eyeballing a rendering of an office building, it’s difficult to gauge just how big the space will be.
Consider the Dominion Tower, under construction in downtown Richmond, VA. On paper, the project appears impressive, thanks in great part to its gleaming, modern exterior. The project’s stature rises when you realize the office tower will encompass 908,000 square feet.
But if you don’t have a grasp of how a 908,000-square-foot skyscraper compares with other buildings, then the immensity of such a project might be lost on you. That’s where we come in.
In the infographic below, we give you a way to wrap your brain around how the Dominion Tower will stack up against 12 familiar structures in Richmond, such as a Starbucks shop or the Virginia Governor’s Mansion. How do we do that? By coming up with the square footage of each of these structures, then adding up how many of each structure theoretically could be shoved into the 20-story Dominion Tower all at once. Who knew that many Starbucks shops could be stacked inside a high-rise?
