Better Living, Better Lawn Care in Redondo Beach
Once a flourishing trade center for lumber and oil, the land here that belonged to the Native Americans was named Rancho San Pedro after the California government made it a part of a sizable land grant in 1784. When the Hotel Redondo opened in the late 19th century, trade gave way to tourism as railroads and steamships brought droves of people along with loads of lumber and oil. Visitors who couldn't afford the posh hotel with its 18-hole golf course and luxe rooms rented tents at nearby Tent City for $3 per week. The tents had wooden floors and electric lights. In 1892, a city was established, and the first city hall was erected.
Today, Redondo Beach is recognized for its history, unbeatable beach, gorgeous sunsets, and a unique horseshoe-shaped pier. Residents and visitors dine at some of Southern California's best waterfront seafood restaurants, shop at world-class stores, and browse charming boutiques at places such as Riviera Village, South Bay Galleria, and South Bay Marketplace. The Galleria has more than 135 stores and restaurants, and the Riveria Village has a collection of over 300 unique shops, services, and eateries. South Bay Marketplace features eclectic fashions and open-air dining.
Outdoor adventures at Redondo Beach are plentiful and include great surfing, sport fishing, sailing, kayaking, beach biking, and diving. The horseshoe-shaped pier has become a South Bay landmark with panoramic views, oceanfront dining, libations, shopping, and entertainment. Harbor and nature cruises are offered at the pier for seasonal whale watching. The magnificent gray whales thrill spectators along the shore and on cruises from November to April as they make the 10,000-mile migration from the chilly Bering Sea to Baja's warm lagoons. Visitors can also rent kayaks and standup paddle boats. Scenic strolls along the pier soothe the soul, especially at sunset, and live music is featured almost every night. Stop by Tony's for a luscious cocktail and have an oceanside lunch or dinner at El Torito's. There's an arcade that kids (and grownups) love on the bottom floor, and anglers can rent poles and bait.
A trip to Seaside Lagoon is a favorite pastime for families. The manmade saltwater lagoon sits surrounded by sand in a park next to the harbor. Lifeguards are on duty for safe swimming, and the beach has a grassy area with playground equipment and a snack bar. The SEA Lab is another popular family spot. The nonprofit aquarium features a touch tank tour every hour from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m on Saturdays. It's the perfect place to have birthday parties with ocean or pirate themes.
Redondo has great parks like Veteran's Park and Dominguez Park to hang out in after work or school and on weekends. The view from the backside of Veteran's Park is incredible, and there are large trees and playground equipment. The park hosts a farmers market on Thursday mornings. Dominguez Park is within walking distance to a shopping center for treats. The park has a historical house to tour with an off-leash dog park next door.
Living here is a whirlwind of fun activities from hanging out at the beach or parks to shopping and dining, so how do residents find time for weekend chores? Fortunately, their lawn maintenance chores are covered by LawnStarter, an app that lets them schedule lawn mowing and most any other lawn care chore imaginable. The app makes it easy to find quality lawn care priced right and without a long wait.
