It thrives in hot temperatures, while also having sufficient winter hardiness. Its deep root system allows it to tolerate drought conditions well. <\/p>
The common-type Bermuda cultivars, with a coarse texture and low density, are best suited for home lawns. Their maintenance needs are fewer than finer-textured, higher-density cultivars commonly used for athletic fields or golf courses. Bermudagrass can resist many common turf diseases and is an overall good option for homeowners in Oklahoma.<\/p>

As a native grass, it\u2019s perfectly fitted for lawns exposed to full sun and endures Oklahoma\u2019s drought, heat, and cold temperatures well.<\/p>
Because of its lower watering needs, buffalograss is a perfect choice for lawns without a sprinkler system<\/a> installed. With no need for regular aeration and dethatching, this one is a good option to consider if you want a low-maintenance lawn. Buffalograss prefers loamy-clay soil. <\/p>

Although it does well in full sun, St. Augustinegrass<\/a> is well adapted to partial shade, being the most shade-tolerant of the warm-season grass types.<\/p>
Though it requires better, more nutrient-rich soil than Bermudagrass, St. Augustinegrass is still manageable in different soil conditions. Its maintenance needs are on the higher side, requiring regular fertilization and more frequent watering than buffalograss, for example. <\/p>

With a high foot traffic tolerance, this turf produces fine to medium-textured, beautifully green foliage. Zoysiagrass is best-adapted to the eastern half of the state. <\/p>
Zoysiagrass takes one to three seasons to establish itself, as it\u2019s a slow grower. On one hand, this means less mowing, but the downside is that it also means a slow recovery from damage. Overall it\u2019s a high-quality turf that comes with moderate to high-maintenance needs. <\/p>

- Potential for disease:<\/strong> Good disease tolerance overall<\/li>
- Soil pH:<\/strong> 6-6.5<\/li>

It is commonly used to overseed dormant Bermudagrass lawns or to help with soil stabilization during the fall.<\/p>
Perennial ryegrass is a good choice for irrigated areas since it will need a few sips of water during the summer heat, or it\u2019ll lose its green color. But it won\u2019t form thatch and has a high foot traffic tolerance. Its most significant downside is the high vulnerability to common lawn diseases. <\/p>
- Classification:<\/strong> Cool-season grass<\/li>
- Spreads by:<\/strong> Has a bunch-type growth habit<\/li>
- Shade tolerance:<\/strong> Low* <\/li>
- Drought tolerance:<\/strong> Low<\/li>

- Maintenance needs:<\/strong> Moderate mowing and fertilization requirements. Thatch is not significant. <\/li>
- Mowing height:<\/strong> Set the mowing height to 1.5 to 2.5 inches<\/li>
- Potential for disease:<\/strong> High. Common diseases include gray leaf spot, red thread, and leaf spot\/melting-out. <\/li>
- Soil pH:<\/strong> Can grow in soils with a pH between 5 and 8, but prefers between 6 and 7. <\/li>
- Soil type:<\/strong> Prefers good drainage and fertility, but can tolerate some poor drainage.<\/li>
- Other notes: *<\/strong>Suitable for shaded sites in Oklahoma<\/a> where warm-season grasses will not grow due to a high degree of shade. Will also persist in sunny sites with regular irrigation. Make sure you choose the right cultivar to ensure it will endure the hot summer conditions of the state. <\/li> <\/ul>

As its friend perennial ryegrass, Kentucky bluegrass (KBG) is also considered a high-quality turf with high-maintenance requirements.<\/p>
Kentucky bluegrass has a moderate drought and foot traffic tolerance<\/a>. Nitrogen fertilization and irrigation are needed frequently, and thatch formation is common. This grass will certainly provide you with a stunning lawn, but before making a decision, evaluate if you\u2019re willing to care for this turfgrass as much as it needs you to. <\/p>

- Shade tolerance:<\/strong> Low, but requires regular irrigation if planted in a full-sun location in Oklahoma<\/li>
