American poet Ralph Waldo Emerson, an avid gardener, once  described a weed as \u201ca plant whose virtues have not yet been discovered.\u201d<\/p>

Who was he kidding? Doesn\u2019t everyone despise weeds? They\u2019re pesky and unsightly. And they\u2019re seemingly everywhere. Around the world, there are about 8,000 species of weeds, <\/span>according to<\/span><\/a> Penn State University\u2019s College of Agricultural Sciences.<\/span><\/p>

\u201cWeeds are naturally strong competitors,\u201d Penn State says, \u201cand those weeds that can best compete always tend to dominate.\u201d<\/span><\/p>

Around the country, there are certain places where conditions are especially favorable for weed domination. Since we\u2019re a lawn care company, we set out to figure out which places those are.<\/span><\/p>

In compiling our rankings of the 50 largest metro areas based on the likelihood of weeds popping up, we examined four weed-friendly factors:<\/span><\/p>
