The process of aeration pokes holes in compacted soil to improve its ability to breathe and make it easier for grass roots to absorb the nutrients needed to thrive. <\/p>    <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How do you aerate your lawn? There are a handful of ways &#8212; you can rent an aerator for core aeration, you can hire a lawn care service to either core aerate your lawn or apply liquid aeration, or you could use aerator shoes to poke holes in your lawn. <\/p>    <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We don&#8217;t recommend using aerator shoes. Better to rent an aerator or hire a pro for this spring lawn care task. Most lawns will benefit from being aerated every 1 to 5 years, but what about your lawn? Well, that depends on a few key factors, including your soil type, your grass type, and the level of soil compaction.<\/p>    <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But generally&#8230;<\/p>    <ul class=\"wp-block-list\"> <li><strong>Cool-season grasses<\/strong> thrive best when aerated<strong> in early spring or fall<\/strong>. While early spring works, fall is the true superstar season for aeration. As temperatures start to chill out and moisture levels rise, your turf will bounce back faster than a rubber ball on a trampoline.<\/li>    <li><strong>Warm-season grasses<\/strong> prefer aeration in late spring through early summer.
