Seems everyone is Irish on March 17th, or at least claims to be. In reality, only a handful of places in the U.S. can claim to be true Irish cities.<\/span><\/p>    <h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>May your home always be too small to hold all your friends<\/b><\/h2>    <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ever wonder how many Americans truly have the luck of the Irish and how many are just full of blarney? According to the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/factfinder.census.gov\/faces\/tableservices\/jsf\/pages\/productview.xhtml?src=bkmk\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">U.S. Census Bureau<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, 32.3 million Americans (about 10% of the population) claim Irish ancestry. What makes that number so incredible is the fact that the current population of Ireland and Northern Ireland combined is only 6.4 million. In other words, there are five times as many Irish descendants in the U.S. than in Ireland. Maybe they need to change the proverb to \u201cMay your country be too small to hold all your descendants.\u201d<\/span><\/p>    <h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Highest Irish Population<\/b><\/h2>    <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s not surprising that Irish is the second most common ancestry (Behind German.)<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.loc.gov\/teachers\/classroommaterials\/presentationsandactivities\/presentations\/immigratio\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Nearly 4.5 million Irish<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> immigrants arrived in the U.S.between 1820 and 1860. The mass immigration really picked up after a blight hit the Emerald Isle\u2019s potato crop in 1845, starving the majority of the population. They came here searching for food and land, and fellow Irishmen. They found a lot of company in Boston.<\/span><\/p>    <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Census numbers from 1855 show the earliest Irish settlers chose homes near the docks, where fishing and jobs were plentiful. Nearly four-thousand Irish-born immigrants (23 percent of the city\u2019s population) lived in East Boston at the time. Bean Town remains the city with the most concentrated Irish population. Here are the other top nine cities where Irish eyes are smiling: (according to the 2016 numbers from the U.S. Census Survey.)<\/span><\/p>    <ol class=\"wp-block-list\"> <li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"\/boston-ma-lawn-care\"> Boston, Massachusetts<\/a> &nbsp;21.5%<\/span><\/li>    <li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"\/philadelphia-pa-lawn-care\"> Philadelphia, Pennsylvania<\/a> 14.2%<\/span><\/li>    <li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"\/louisville-ky-lawn-care\"> Louisville, Kentucky<\/a> 13.2%<\/span><\/li>    <li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"\/buffalo-ny-lawn-care\"> Buffalo, New York<\/a> 11.23%<\/span><\/li>    <li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"\/nashville-tn-lawn-care\"> Nashville, Tennessee<\/a> 9.8%<\/span><\/li>    <li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"\/kansas-city-mo-lawn-care\"> Kansas City, Missouri<\/a> 9.66%<\/span><\/li>    <li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"\/raleigh-nc-lawn-care\"> Raleigh, North Carolina<\/a> 9.5%<\/span><\/li>    <li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"\/cleveland-oh-lawn-care\"> Cleveland, Ohio<\/a> 9.43%<\/span><\/li>    <li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Saint Paul, Minnesota &#8211; 9.4%<\/span><\/li>    <li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"\/baltimore-md-lawn-care\"> Baltimore, Maryland<\/a> 9.14%<\/span><\/li> <\/ol>    <figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"584\" height=\"582\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lawnstarter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Screen-Shot-2019-03-04-at-5.20.57-PM.png\" alt=\"when irish eyes are smiling graphic\" class=\"wp-image-14290\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lawnstarter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Screen-Shot-2019-03-04-at-5.20.57-PM.png 584w, https:\/\/www.lawnstarter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Screen-Shot-2019-03-04-at-5.20.57-PM-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/www.lawnstarter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Screen-Shot-2019-03-04-at-5.20.57-PM-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/www.lawnstarter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Screen-Shot-2019-03-04-at-5.20.57-PM-55x55.png 55w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/figure>    <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Those are just the numbers from the major metropolitan cities. Keep in mind, many of the Irish who immigrated here, chose the suburbs just outside the larger metro area of their choice.<\/span><\/p>    <h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Medium Cities<\/b><\/h2>    <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Weymouth, Massachusetts &#8211; 45.5%<\/span><\/p>    <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Quincy, Massachusetts 33.5%<\/span><\/p>    <h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Smaller Cities<\/b><\/h2>    <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Scituate, Massachusetts &#8211; 61.5%<\/span><\/p>    <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Holly Bluff, Mississippi &#8211; 58.33%<\/span><\/p>    <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Irish-Americans make up least 5% of the population in most counties across the U.S., and 10% or more in New England, New York state, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. The Metro city with the smallest Irish population? Miami, with just 1%.<\/span><\/p>    <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You may think tallying up the Irish population in America is like looking for a four-leaf clover in a patch of shamrocks. Why should we care? Two reasons: property and parades.<\/span><\/p>    <h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Property<\/h2>    <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Remember, many of the Irish came to the U.S. searching for land. The Census Bureau\u2019s 2016 community survey shows that nearly 69% of Irish-Americans are homeowners. Irish Americans said home ownership is very important to them. 68.9% of those<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.census.gov\/content\/dam\/Census\/newsroom\/facts-for-features\/2018\/fff-irish-american.pdf\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">surveyed<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> owned the home in which they lived, the highest for any ethnic group. That information is especially important to realtors, developers, city planners and businesses looking to expand. A shipping, or lawn care company would do well looking to expand in Boston where the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lawnstarter.com\/blog\/city-rankings\/the-fastest-growing-and-slowest-growing-u-s-metro-areas-in-the-race-for-amazon-hq2\/\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">population has grown<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by nearly 6% in the past ten years. Many Irish-Americans say they\u2019re looking to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.census.gov\/newsroom\/facts-for-features\/2016\/cb16-ff04.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">duplicate the green <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">space they enjoyed in the old country. Lawn care companies and landscapers can benefit here. Developers can benefit by naming new subdivisions after Irish cities, like Dublin or Shannon.<\/span><\/p>    <h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Parades<\/h2>    <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Parades are also big revenue draws for Boston and New York City. While New York City hosts the largest (more than 2 million spectators) St. Patrick\u2019s Day Parade, Boston boasts the longest and the oldest. The tradition began there in 1737 and now attracts<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.southbostonparade.org\/\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">one million spectators<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> every year. While the Windy City isn\u2019t in the top ten for its Irish population, it does have the second largest St. Paddy\u2019s Day parade in the country.
