But what counts as non-essential? Obviously, there are things that need to be watered, but some things can do without for a while.<\/p>    <p>Non-essential water usage includes:<\/p>    <ul class=\"wp-block-list\"> <li>Washing vehicles<\/li>    <li>Watering golf courses<\/li>    <li>Refilling swimming pools and jacuzzis<\/li> <\/ul>    <p>Now that you have an idea of what is considered \u201cnon-essential water usage,\u201d here are the mandatory restrictions set in place during the first stage of drought in Cstat:<\/p>    <ul class=\"wp-block-list\"> <li>Non-essential water use should occur only twice a week on <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.cstx.gov\/2023\/08\/21\/college-station-initiates-stage-1-water-restrictions-under-citys-drought-contingency-plan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the designated outdoor watering days<\/a> determined by the city of College Station.<\/li>    <li>On the designated watering day, non-essential water use is permitted from 12 a.m.-10 a.m. and from 6 p.m.-12 a.m.&nbsp;<\/li>    <li>Hand-held hoses that automatically shut off when the hose is not being held are allowed at any time of the day.<\/li> <\/ul>    <p>There are several things that are <strong>not<\/strong> allowed during stage one, regardless of the time of day. These include:<\/p>    <ul class=\"wp-block-list\"> <li>Charity car washes.<\/li>    <li>Operating ornamental fountains or ponds (unless they contain aquatic life)\u00a0<\/li>    <li>Washing sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, or tennis courts<\/li>    <li>Using water for dust control<\/li> <\/ul>    <p>These restrictions are only required if you use the City water system. They do not apply to other water sources, such as recycled water or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lawnstarter.com\/blog\/landscaping\/rainwater-harvesting-guidelines-by-state\/#168-texas\">harvested rainwater<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>    <p>These restrictions also do not apply to:<\/p>    <ul class=\"wp-block-list\"> <li>Commercial plant nurseries<\/li>    <li>Newly installed landscaping<\/li>    <li>Testing new or recently repaired irrigation systems (If your irrigation system needs repair, see our guide on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lawnstarter.com\/blog\/cost\/sprinkler-repair-price\/\">How Much Does Sprinkler Repair Cost?<\/a> for more information.)<\/li> <\/ul>    <h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"2-stage-2-severe-water-shortage\">Stage 2: Severe Water Shortage<\/h3>    <p>So now the drought has gotten worse, and the demand for water has increased. In order to keep the demand below 90% of the system capacity, more restrictions need to be set in place. Not only do the rules in stage one apply, but now there are some additional restrictions.<\/p>    <p>These include prohibitions on:<\/p>    <ul class=\"wp-block-list\"> <li>Using irrigation systems<\/li>    <li>Washing cars or other motor vehicles<\/li>    <li>Filling or refilling swimming pools<\/li>    <li>Installing new landscapes<\/li> <\/ul>    <p>What is still permitted is the use of buckets or hand-held hoses with nozzles that shut off automatically when not being held. To bring everything back to normal as soon as possible, even more water usage restrictions are put in place:<\/p>    <ul class=\"wp-block-list\"> <li>All non-essential water use is now prohibited.<\/li>    <li>Public service announcements may be released on the radio and TV to inform residents that they should boil water or use bottled water.<\/li>    <li>The city manager may order water rationing or terminate service (in this order): <ul class=\"wp-block-list\"> <li>Recreational users<\/li>    <li>Commercial users<\/li>    <li>School users<\/li>    <li>Residential users<\/li>    <li>Hospitals, public health, and safety facilities<\/li> <\/ul> <\/li> <\/ul>    <h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"4-lawn-watering-tips-for-college-station\">Lawn Watering Tips for College Station<\/h2>    <p>For the most efficient use of your water, keep these helpful tips in mind:<\/p>    <ul class=\"wp-block-list\"> <li>Water only two days a week.<\/li>    <li>Water for 10 minutes, three times, with at least an hour between each watering time.
