SXSW 2026<\/a> offers a variety of activities, including comedy and music showcases, film and television screenings, exhibitions, panels, culture, tech demonstrations, and more. The event caters to a variety of interests.<\/p>
While SXSW is essential for many professionals, it can get very expensive if your company is not sponsoring you. Here\u2019s how to have a blast without blowing your life savings.<\/p>
Big Changes for 2026<\/h2>
South By is undergoing significant changes in 2026:<\/p>
Lower pricing: <\/strong>SXSW 2026 pre-sale badge pricing is about $200 lower than last year except for the Music badge, which dropped by $75.<\/p>
Scheduling: <\/strong>South By 2026 will be a single-weekend event, and seven days instead of nine, with all three tracks running concurrently each day<\/strong>, including a crossover day on March 12th<\/strong>, which coincides with the last day of the SXSW EDU festival (March 9-12).<\/p>
Badges: <\/strong>Platinum, Innovation (formerly Interactive), Film and TV, and Music badges now include primary access to all events within that track<\/strong>, with the ability to reserve 2 seats per day (3 for Platinum) before the festival<\/strong>.<\/p>
Secondary access:<\/strong> Secondary access is not in effect for SXSW 2026. Instead, for access to events outside your primary track, badgeholders (and anyone without a badge) may purchase Music Festival Wristbands<\/a> for $149 ($189 walk-up), granting live music access throughout all seven nights of the festival (after badgeholder admissions).<\/p>
In place of film wristbands, a limited number of general admission film tickets will be on sale the week before SXSW.<\/p>
Event spaces:<\/strong> With the Austin Convention Center undergoing renovations until 2029, a clubhouse model has been adopted for 2026. Three separate clubhouses will serve as the homebase for each festival:

- Film and TV badge clubhouse:<\/strong> 800 Congress<\/li>
- Innovation badge clubhouse:<\/strong> Brazos Hall<\/li> <\/ul>
Hotels and event spaces around each clubhouse will host additional events, streamlining access for attendees.<\/p>

When is SXSW 2026?<\/h3>
The entire event runs from Thursday, March 12th, 2026, to Wednesday, March 18th, 202<\/strong>6<\/strong>, and every day is packed with events, so knowing what you want to see will help you plan better. Keep in mind that certain activities are scheduled only for part of the week.<\/p>
For example, the Film and Television Festival<\/a> runs all seven days and includes screenings of different films and TV shows. However, if you want to catch a glimpse of stars like Keke Palmer at the premiere of \u201cI Love Boosters,\u201d you\u2019ll want to be there on opening night!<\/p>
If you\u2019re more interested in catching live comedy, the Comedy Festival<\/a> is scheduled from Friday, March 13th, 2026, to Monday, March 16th, 2026<\/strong> and is open to all badgeholders. The Festival will feature a range of acts, from stand-up and improv to live podcast recordings and late-night showcases.<\/p>
Where is SXSW 2026?<\/h3>
The short answer is downtown Austin, Texas<\/strong>. However, the events, both free and part of the festivals, are spread out across numerous venues.<\/p>
Knowing where you want to go and estimating the travel time can greatly impact your schedule, especially considering the closed-off streets and heavy traffic.<\/p>
Badges: Costs and How to Save<\/h2>
South By has four main badge types that give different levels of access to the festival: Music, Film and TV, Innovation, and Platinum. There are discounts available for students (both high school and college). They do not offer day passes, and rates increase the closer you get to the event.<\/p>
Note:<\/strong> Badges, for many people, are expensive; however, there are plenty of free events and attractions that can be accessed without a badge. I\u2019ve attended SXSW without a badge and was busy every day with all they had to offer outside of the main venues. So, if all access isn\u2019t in your budget, don\u2019t let that stop you from enjoying the festival.<\/p>
