Florida ‘Lawntrepreneur’ Earns LawnStarter Scholarship

Spencer Marble

Spencer Marble is a mowing mogul in the making.

Marble, an 18-year-old senior at Creekside High School in St. Johns, FL, owns Florida Lawn and Order LLC, whose services include lawn care, tree trimming and mulching. Marble and his two full-time employees take care of a little over 50 customers each week in and around St. Johns, a suburb of Jacksonville, FL.

“I just purchased a second trailer and got it ready for a second crew,” says Marble, whose company is a provider in LawnStarter’s lawn care network. “We are growing at a rate where I think we might need a second crew.”

Spencer Marble, 18, owns and operates Florida Lawn and Order.

To aid Marble’s growth as an entrepreneur, we’ve awarded him our first-ever LawnStarter Lawntrepreneur Scholarship. The $1,000 scholarship will help pay for his online college classes this fall, along with a once-a-week, on-campus class he’s planning to take at night.

“This scholarship means a lot to me. My parents are very supportive of me and my business endeavors and know this is one of many more to come,” Marble says. “I take this as a humble steppingstone in the right direction.”

Spencer is the son of Bernie and Kathy Marble.

Spencer will be completing his college work while still tending to his lawn care business, which was launched in 2014. In college, he wants to study subjects like marketing, human resources and customer service that will boost his entrepreneurial know-how.

Marble already has a knack for customer service. On the Florida Lawn and Order website, the business touts its no-contract approach to signing up customers.

“An honest handshake and earning your business each and every time we come out to service your property is what we believe in,” the website says. “We always make our customers the priority by using simple, courteous practices. We will always answer the phone or return your call promptly.”

In selecting Marble for the scholarship, LawnStarter took notice of his business smarts.

“We are very impressed with Spencer’s ability to own and operate a successful business at such a young age,” says Ryan Farley, co-founder and chief operating officer of LawnStarter. “With hard work and persistence, we are confident that Spencer will become an even more successful entrepreneur.”
